Privacy Policy

Last updated 11 October 2026

Adventures with Sugar ("we", "us") runs the website adventureswithsugar.com and the Instagram account @adventureswithsugar. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and what you can do about it. We are based in South Africa and handle personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

What we collect

When you visit the website: our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes standard technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request, so that the site can be delivered and protected from abuse. We don't use this data to identify you.

When you interact with us on Instagram: when you comment on one of our posts, for example to ask for a recipe, we use Instagram's official API to read the comment and reply to it. The reply might be a public comment, a direct message with the recipe link, or both. To do this, we store:

  • your Instagram username and the ID Instagram gives your comment
  • the text and time of your comment
  • whether we replied, and when

We don't collect your password, contact details, followers or any other information from your Instagram account.

How we use it

We use this information only to reply to your comments and messages, and to avoid replying to the same comment twice. We don't sell or rent it, we don't use it for advertising, and we don't share it with anyone except the service providers that run our tools:

  • Meta (Instagram), which delivers comments and messages
  • Cloudflare, which hosts our website and tools
  • Supabase, which hosts our database

How long we keep it

We keep Instagram comment records for up to 12 months, then delete them.

Your rights and data deletion

You can ask us at any time what information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. To have your data deleted, email linsen.loots@gmail.com with your Instagram username. We will delete every record linked to it within 30 days and confirm by email. Deleting your comment on Instagram doesn't automatically remove our record of it, so please email us as well.

You can also stop our access entirely by not commenting on our posts or messaging us, and you can complain to South Africa's Information Regulator if you're unhappy with how we handle your information.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
